Chinese New Year 2021 will be observed on Friday, February 12th, 2021.  We wish we could see everyone this Chinese New Year – Year of the Ox, but the world has gone virtual and so has FCC. We will be having fun, family friendly virtual events weekly during the month of February, starting February 7th.

Here's our exciting lineup of events. Don't miss out!
 
Sunday February 7th - 1pm
To anticipate the celebration, we will be kicking off our festivities with a Lion Dance, followed by Chinese New Year Trivia. The trivia game is on Kahoot! It is easiest way to play is with two devices, watching the questions on your computer, giving answers on your phone. There will be prizes!!! You can also join Hailey Li, from CCB, who will be teaching us how to make an oragami Ox. Register here, then check your email for the zoom link.

Golden Lunar New Year Parade
An annual tradition hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of LA, now brought to you virtually for the first time. This year we reflect on the history and achievements of Chinese Americans in Los Angeles.
Come celebrate our heritage with us, told through stories of pop culture, dance and music, historians, entertainment personalities and business luminaries.
 
Sunday February 21, 7pm
Movie night, Grab your snacks and join us for our all time favorite movie, Kung Fu Panda. Register here, then check your email for the zoom link.
 
Sunday February 28, 1pm
Dumpling Making Workshop with Momo
Join us on Sunday February 28 at 1:00 PM for a zoom cooking workshop with Momo, a long-time friend of FCC and Mandarin teacher. She will demonstrate the making of her favorite authentic recipe live on Zoom while you cook alongside her. Sign-Up for this hour-long class, and you will receive the shopping list, equipment list and recipe in advance, then log-on and make your own dumplings with Momo guiding and answering questions throughout the process. Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Fight Opioid Addiction Through Education, Progressive Treatment

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Opioid addiction is a problem that many Americans don’t have an answer for. This month, federal authorities claimed one of the largest fentanyl seizures in U.S. history-- 97 pounds representing millions of lethal doses --from a house in San Diego. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed three adults found dead in a Vista home a few weeks prior to the bust were killed by fentanyl overdoses. Dr. Brian Couey, Clinical Director for the  Hazelden  Betty Ford Foundation, joined News 8’s Heather Myers  Wednesday  to talk about the opioid epidemic and how the foundation is working tirelessly to fight it. A recent collaborative study between the foundation and the University of Maryland suggests that people have varying levels of susceptibility to opioid addiction and misuse.
