Smooch Music Inc., Drops New Video for Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise,” In Celebration of Black History Month
Los Angeles, CA., February 12, 2021 -- Today, Smooch Music Inc., has dropped a new video for Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise,” released in celebration of Black History Month. Rolling Stone hosted the exclusive for the reimagined track off of the 2014 posthumous LP, Caged Bird Songs. A Deluxe version of Caged Bird Songs is also available today, which features 5 additional tracks including, “Pilgrim of Sorrow”, recorded at Maya’s kitchen table with Smooch Music’s COO, Van Jewell Kantor and Producer, Shawn Rivera- one of the last recorded moments of her powerful and poignant voice. The video features Angelou's voice reading the iconic poem across hip-hop beats - You may shoot me with your works/You may cut me with your eyes/You may kill me with your hatefulness/But still, like dust, I rise - as footage of the Civil Rights Movement and current protests play.
