Annual Event Celebrates Mission’s
More than 80 Years of service to L.A.’s Homeless
Los Angeles, California --- October 1, 2018 --- The Los Angeles Mission will honor Dr. Drew Pinsky at its 8thAnnual Legacy of Vision Gala.  The October 25thgala will honor Pinsky with Anne Douglas’s namesake Award.  (Ticket/Sponsorship information here.)
Pinsky is the host of Dr. Drew Midday Live on KABC radio in Los Angeles.  His also hosts MTV television’s Teen Mom Reunion specials, as well as Host of the Dr. Drew Podcast and the Adam and Drew Podcast.  A frequent guest on talk and national news programs, Dr. Drew has also penned a New York Times bestseller “The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism is Seducing America” (Harper Collins).
Long-time, dedicated Los Angeles Mission volunteers Edwin and Aldis Hodge, brothers and popular actors, will receive the Legacy of Vision Award at the gala.  Edwin Hodge is known for his role as Robert Chase in “Six” and “The Purge” series of films. Aldis Hodge is recognized for his many film roles, notably “Hidden Figures,” his role as Akinbode in the TV series “Turn” on AMC and Noah in “Underground” on WGN.
The event will be hosted by Jonathan Sadowski, actor most recently recognized for his role as Josh Kaminiski in Freeform’s “Young and Hungry.”
The Anne Douglas Award is given each year to the person who has made significant contributions to the community.  The award is named for Mrs. Douglas, benefactor of the Los Angeles Mission's Anne Douglas Center for Women and the wife of actor Kirk Douglas.

For more than 80 years, the Los Angeles Missionhas served thousands of hurting men and women who find themselves homeless in downtown Los Angeles, providing emergency services such as shelter, food and clothing.  In addition, the Los Angeles Mission also offers long-term residential rehabilitation programs, including education, job training, transitional housing and counseling.

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Fight Opioid Addiction Through Education, Progressive Treatment

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Opioid addiction is a problem that many Americans don’t have an answer for. This month, federal authorities claimed one of the largest fentanyl seizures in U.S. history-- 97 pounds representing millions of lethal doses --from a house in San Diego. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed three adults found dead in a Vista home a few weeks prior to the bust were killed by fentanyl overdoses. Dr. Brian Couey, Clinical Director for the  Hazelden  Betty Ford Foundation, joined News 8’s Heather Myers  Wednesday  to talk about the opioid epidemic and how the foundation is working tirelessly to fight it.
